Big budget movie Godzilla v Kong might look like a shallow shlock horror on the surface but behind the CGI it is emblematic of pretty serious real world tensions.

Godzilla terrorises the Japanese city of Tokyo and was created as a metaphor for the nuclear attacks by the US on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Whereas Kong was created by Edgar Wallace and Merian C Cooper to represent the scourge of colonial rule, with Kong representing a slave dragged to New York against his will.
