It should have been a traditional state event, with the pomp and majesty expected for the funeral of the most senior member of Britain’s Royal family.

The original plan for the funeral on Saturday of the Duke of Edinburgh, approved by the prince when he was alive, was for military parades and crowds of people to gather in streets to pay their respects.

Now, thanks to coronavirus, it has been scaled down from 800 guests to 30 close family and friends.
